A 35-year-old woman was raped at gunpoint in the Tambo Section of Bekkersdal during the early hours of Saturday morning, 17 August.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the 29-year-old suspect was known to the victim.

She said he lured the victim outside a tavern and forced her into a shack where he raped her while holding a gun.
“She reported the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.”
Lefakane urged people to avoid visiting liquor outlets in the early hours of the morning or late at night as they are more vulnerable to becoming a prey to opportunistic criminals.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
