• Until 25 August: Guided Educational Nature Walks and Goldmine Tours in Kloofendal Nature Reserve
Don’t miss the events taking place at the Kloofendal Nature Reserve in Roodepoort this August! The Friends of Kloofendal (FRoK) are offering a variety of activities, from a guided nature walk and FroK Ecoclub nature adventure walks, to goldmine tours, birdwatching outings and a nocturnal creepy crawlies adventure with Jonathan Leeming. • 16 to 18 August: Health and Fitness Expo in Roodepoort
Get back into shape and witness the fitness at the Health and Fitness Expo at Clearwater for one whole weekend. The Expo, which features everything the health and fitness industry has to offer, runs from Friday to Sunday afternoon while the annual 10km race and 5km fun run will take place on Saturday, 17 August. • 17 August: 10km Race & 5km Fun Run at Clearwater Mall in Roodepoort
Enter now for a 10km Race and 5km Fun Run. Collection of online entries takes place on Friday, 16 August, from noon to 7pm in the Piazza. Entries on the day are also available from 5.30am at Entrance 1. Visit the Clearwater Mall Facebook events page for more information.

The expo at Clearwater Mall until 18 August features everything the health and fitness industry has to offer.

• 17 August: Birthday celebration at Cartridge Cave
Bring the whole family to Cartridge Cave in Homelake as they celebrate their 10th birthday from 8.30am until 2pm. There will be lots to be won and plenty to feast on, including cake.

• 19 August: Entrepreneurship Seminar in Krugersdorp
Fikile Majola, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry will engage young business operators at an Entrepreneurship Seminar in Krugersdorp. The seminar will attract young people already in business, university students and those aspiring to go into business, and they will interact with government and support agency officials and other critical specialists and stakeholders. The purpose of the event is to create a platform to sharpen entrepreneurial skills among the youth, and to unpack opportunities and the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) on industries, business, government and communities. • 23, 24 and 25 August: Magalies Rocks the Cradle Festival
If you’ve ever wanted an authentic off-the-beaten-track adventure for the whole family that is right on the doorstep of the Cradle of Humankind and just an hour’s drive from Johannesburg, Pretoria and Rustenburg, you’re in for a treat. The Magalies Rocks the Cradle 2019 (MRtC) festival promises an all-round epic sensory experience with more than 100 events of music, art, nature, adrenaline, a walk through history, food and magic. Now in its fourth year running, MRtC is quite the attraction for adventure-seekers of all ages and backgrounds, and city dwellers who are tired of the mundane and the monotonous. This year, visitors can enjoy an array of activities in the Art and Craft, Performing Arts, Craft Food and Drink, Handcrafted and Artisan, Kids, and Markets focus areas. In addition to the more than 100 lifestyle and entertainment events, festival-goers can also enjoy tours, workshops, talks about the history and heritage of Magaliesburg, ghost stories around the campfire and a theatre performance that explores little-known facts about the Anglo-Boer War. • 24 August: The Clearwater Mall Lego exhibition in Roodepoort
With over 50 tables of brick-filled goodness, the exhibition is sure to be a weekend of fun and excitement. There will be a fascinating variety of Lego models built by the members of zaLUG (the South African LEGO User Group) Entrance is free. Details: www.zalug.co.za.

• 25 August: West Side Craft and Food Market in Ruimsig

• 30 August: Big Bugs! exhibit in Roodepoort
The Big Bugs! exhibit at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden will entertain children and adults alike until 8 September. This giant Creature World Expo exhibit with 10 gigantic animatronic bugs and other creatures has never been in South Africa. Various packages are available. Tickets from R85 per person. • 31 August: The Festival of Ales 2019 in Krugersdorp
Get to the Greensleeves Medieval Kingdom in Sterkfontein, Krugersdorp from 10am to 6pm for the 2019 Festival of Ales. This year’s festival is sure to bring you more knight battles, delicious craft beer, wine and gin. Tickets from R25 for children and R210 per adult. • 1 September: Spring market in aid of the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA
Ngwenya Country Market in Muldersdrift will be hosting a special Spring event in aid of the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA between 9am and 4pm. Support the initiative and bring along a can or two of dog or cat food. Also come and listen to the fabulous music of Jacques Lagesse. One can also buy one of the SPCA’s walking doggie balloons. Ngwenya Country Market in Muldersdrift will be hosting a special Spring time event in aid of the Roodepoort/Krugersdorp SPCA on 1 September.

• 14 September: Ex-prisoner to give life-changing talk in Randfontein
Rusty Labuschagne, who is said to have been falsely accused and imprisoned for 10 years, will be giving an inspirational talk at AFM Groen Weivelde in Randfontein. Enrico van Aswegen, vice-chairperson of AFM Groen Weivelde described the talk as life-changing. Some even described Rusty as a modern-day example of Paul and Silas (Acts 16:25–38).

• 6 to 11 October: Paw x 4 Namaqua Coastal Trip and fundraiser for the Randwest SPCA
Randwest Nissan is planning a Paw x 4 Namaqua Coastal Trip with 20 vehicles – and 50 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Randwest SPCA. According to Gerda Pieterse of Randwest Nissan they are inviting all 4 x 4 vehicle owners, and all dog lovers and their sociable and disciplined four-legged friends to join this adventure to support the local SPCA.
