Police in the West Rand Cluster along with other law enforcement agencies made 369 arrests during crime-prevention operations in the district from 6am on Friday, 2 August to 6am on Sunday, 4 August.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, suspects were arrested for serious crimes, including murder, rape, possession of stolen vehicle, housebreaking and theft, theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and contraventions of protection orders, while others were arrested for minor offences included driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of weapons and drugs as, well as drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Among those arrested, she said, was a 22-year-old who stabbed and killed a 35-year-old during a fight at a tavern in Libanon, Westonaria.
All arrested suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ courts today, Monday, 5 August.
“The District commander thanked police members for their contribution towards ensuring that the entire District was safe and all who engaged in lawlessness activities were brought to book,” Lefakane added.
Bekkersdal Police are also searching for suspects after two people, aged 24 and 40, were killed in two separate incidents in an informal settlement.
