• 27 July: Calling all Super Tigers to a reunion in Greenhills

The Super Tigers Football Academy will be hosting a Super Tigers reunion at the Greenhills Stadium on 27 July. In 2000, Bongani Duiker started the Super Tigers Football Academy. He left the club after six years and rejoined in 2018. He said that he is proud that some Super Tigers players graduated in law, others are in the marketing industry and there are also a few artists and entrepreneurs among them. Now, he wants to reunite them for a day of fun. “I want all the players who played for Super Tigers in the past two decades to come together,” he said. He said that players could bring their families along and that the festivities will start at 10am. For more information, call Bongani on 083 490 2897.

• 27 July: Don’t miss Emerald King and Queen 2019 in West Porges

The 2019 Emerald King and Queen pageant will be in aid of Door of Care and Safety here in Randfontein. The pageant will take place at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen on 27 July and registration starts at 10am. The aim of this annual competition is to help an organisation in the community. This year they will be helping Door of Care and Safety, which is in need of nappies, baby porridge, baby formula, and clothes. Contestants are asked to donate baby products when they submit their entries. Please call 082 550 5919.

• 28 July: Christmas in July at the Rand West SPCA

The Rand West SPCA will be hosting a special Christmas in July Market Day at the end of this month. This special event will take place from 11am to 3pm at the Rand West SPCA on Sunday, 28 July. There will be a variety of stalls – from food to delicious coffee. There will also be entertainment for the little ones, such as face painting and much more. • 1 to 7 August: World Breastfeeding Week to be celebrated

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from 1 to 7 August. During this week, the Department of Health joins the world and organisations such as World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, the World Health Organization and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world. “We will be using this time to give information about breastfeeding and promote it as it plays a major role in our survival, especially in children under five,” said Charmaine Raseroka, a dietitian working at the Department of Health in Randfontein. The objectives of World Breastfeeding Week are to emphasise the importance of supporting breastfeeding mothers to improve exclusive and continued breastfeeding, and to highlight the role of family, community health-care workers and the workplace in creating an enabling environment that supports breastfeeding.

3 August: Vleisfees in Eland Kleinhoewe

Kunstenaars soos Ampie, Tanya V, Kosie Beukes, Evert Swart, Die Ventertjies en Anton Botha gaan vir ure se vermaak sorg. Daar gaan ook lekker boeresport soos sweepslaan, kettieskiet, volkspele en toutrek wees vir die hele gesin om te geniet. Daar gaan ook gewys word hoe koeie gemelk en skape geskeer word. Na al die opwinding van die boeresport kan R’fonteiners gerus deur die verskeidenheid stalletjies beweeg of aan boerekos smul. • 9 August: Totalsports Women’s Race 2019 in Johannesburg

For the first time since the event’s inception in 2001, South Africa’s largest Women’s Day Celebration will be hosted on one day across three major cities (Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban). This year the Totalsports Women’s Race will boast a combined prize purse of R123 600. An annual Women’s Day celebration, the Totalsports Women’s Race encourages athletes to run united in support of PinkDrive because they are #StrongerTogether. • 9 August: Help Connies make this Women’s Day special

The Connie Mulder Centre wishes to make this Women’s Day extra special for their female residents, but they need Randfontein’s help. The centre was founded in 1975 and today they cater to the needs of 195 multi-disabled adults. They have 120 female residents and have big plans for their Women’s Day celebrations on 9 August. “Although our centre is partially state-subsidised, we rely on a number of fundraising events to alleviate the strain on the budget. We also place a lot of emphasis on decorating the venue, arranging for an appropriate guest speaker and showering the female residents with edibles and gifts,” said Gordon Henney, chief executive officer. He said that he is hoping that the community will contribute to this wonderful event by donating edibles. • 16 to 18 August: Health and Fitness Expo in Roodepoort

Get back into shape and witness the fitness at the Health and Fitness Expo at Clearwater for one whole weekend. The Expo, which features everything the health and fitness industry has to offer, runs from Friday to Sunday afternoon whilst the annual 10km race and 5km fun run will take place on Saturday, 17 August. • 5 October: Second annual Prime Fest in Muldersdrift

Joburg’s summer social calendar just got hotter with the announcement of the return of the annual Prime Fest music and lifestyle festival. The annual family-friendly festival, hosted by Prime Circle and HOT 91.9 FM, returns for its second year at Casalinga in Muldersdrift and will feature a powerhouse line-up of some of South Africa’s brightest and top music acts. The royal flush of SA music giants confirmed to share the stage alongside Prime Circle includes The Parlotones, Just Jinjer, Jack Parow, Freshlyground, Mango Groove, Wonderboom and Shut Up It’s Sunday, with several more acts to be announced. • 6 to 11 October: Paw x 4 Namaqua Coastal Trip and fundraiser for the Randwest SPCA

Randwest Nissan is planning a Paw x 4 Namaqua Coastal Trip with 20 vehicles – and 50 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Randwest SPCA. According to Gerda Pieterse of Randwest Nissan they are inviting all 4 x 4 vehicle owners, and all dog lovers and their sociable and disciplined four-legged friends to join this adventure to support the local SPCA.
