Intruders open fire on housemates – one killed

Two days ago, intruders shot two sleeping people in Bekkersdal

One person was shot and killed while another was injured when intruders opened fire on them while they were sleeping in Bekkersdal on Wednesday.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the men were sharing a shack and that the incident took place at about 8pm on 17 July in the Tambo Section of Bekkersdal.

A case of murder and attempted murder is being investigated.

“It is alleged by the victim who survived that they were asleep when he was woken by the sound of gunshots. He was about to check where the sound came from when he was hit by a bullet in his thigh. He jumped from the bed and lay on the floor until it was quiet.

“After a while, he realised that the person he was sharing the dwelling with was not moving. He shouted for help and the neighbours assisted by calling the police. The one victim was fatally wounded and died on the scene, while the surviving victim was later taken to the hospital. The motive for the attack is still unknown.”

“The public is advised not to try an apprehend the suspects as they are armed and deemed to be dangerous,” Lefakane pleaded.
