SA Synod opens centre in Randgate

'The Congregational Centre will be a place where reconciliation, justice and peace in our country will be promoted through its programmes of dialogue'

The South Africa Synod officially opened a Congregational Centre in Randgate on Saturday, 13 July.

According to the official website (https://www.sasynod.org.za), “The SA Synod is one of five Synods that constitute the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), that is, Botswana Synod, Mozambique Synod, Namibia Synod and Zimbabwe Synod”.

Reverend Thulani Ndlazi, the South Africa Synod secretary said the centre will benefit the West Rand community.

“It will be a facility that is operated on a sustainable development basis for our church members, ecumenical partners, government and the corporate sector located in the West Rand. Young people in the area will especially benefit from community development programmes, including winter schools programmes as it is a training facility for workshops and an exam centre,” Thulani said.

Before its official launch and opening, Thulani said activities already held at the centre included a national church choir festival that was attended by 600 choristers, as well as the launch of Professor Robert Vinson’s book, entitled Ohio Short Histories of Africa – Albert Luthuli

“The Congregational Centre will be a place where reconciliation, justice and peace in our country will be promoted through its programmes of dialogue.

“This was a dream, to acquire a property that is more than just a synod (national) church administration office building. It’s a place that can also be used to restore hope to the hopeless, a place of healing to those who are hurt and an incubator of dreams where no dream is too small or too big to be nurtured,” Thulani added.
