#MunicipalMonday – Sewage a problem to business in CBD

VIDEO: Fruitless efforts by a business in the CBD has fallen on deaf ears. Watch a video of the latest sewage issue to hit Randfontein.

A business at the intersection of Park North and 8th Streets in the CBD has no choice but to operate with sewage spilling in front of its premises for the past six months.

The business has made countless but fruitless efforts to get the municipality to clean the mess, but the staff members and their customers had to endure the stench while their health was being put at risk every day.

Sewage has been spilling outside the premises of business at the intersection of Eight and Park Street.

Sannie Ludick, one of the staff members said they have contacted the national Department of Water and Sanitation and the Health Department on numerous occasions to have the issue resolved, but said all their efforts were in vain.

“They were blaming each other and would not accept any responsibility,” she said.

Ludick said that for a while the sewage stopped leaking, but the waste was not cleared away.

She explained that the situation impacted their business very negatively. “It is unfair that we have to suffer. We are obliged to pay rates and taxes, yet we do not get the services we are paying for.

“Many customers come to our business every day, and the sewage spill is definitely not a pleasant sight, not to mention the overwhelming stench in the whole area. Those of us who are exposed to this mess fear that our health will suffer,” Ludick said
