EMS personnel in and around Rand West City complete training

A number of EMS personnel from Rand West City and Mogale City recently completed the CPG training programme.

Twelve employees from EMS bases in and around Rand West City and Mogale City have recently received training to upgrade their emergency care skills.

According to both Marcel Weyer and Denver Ramnarain, the West Rand Training Co-ordinators, this group comprised the first EMS personnel from the Rand West and Mogale City areas to be trained according to the newly published Clinical Practice Guidelines by Gauteng’s EMS at the Leratong District Offices in Krugersdorp.

The training was provided by Marcel and Denver.

Marcel said the training would enable the practitioners, who are all registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, to provide a better service to their patients.

The guidelines, or CPGs as the document is known, are based on international best practices in emergency medical care and incorporate evidence-based training and learning linked to clinical practice.”

One of the newly upskilled candidates, Lenox Davhana, who is stationed at Dr Yusuf Dadoo EMS Base in Krugersdorp, said he is proud to be one of the first emergency service personnel employed by Gauteng EMS that has completed the training.

Lenox added that he enjoyed the training and that it will benefit the local community, as he will be able to serve his patients better with the additional skills he acquired during the course.

Jurgens Bence, Acting District Manager of Gauteng EMS on the West Rand said that all EMS personnel employed by the Gauteng Department of Health will undergo CPG training and updates to ensure that they are kept updated with the new evidence-based training in the next few months.

According to Jurgens, the provincial ambulance services recently updated their fleet and equipment to be compliant with the National EMS Regulations, and the training and upskilling of the personnel will assist the provincial ambulance service to meet its goal of being the best provider of quality health services to the people in Gauteng.
