Among those rewarded were officers who had contributed to making several arrests and ensuring numerous convictions.

Colonel Selvan Moonsamy, the Westonaria Police station commander, congratulated all the recipients, saying the ceremony encouraged them to keep on doing the good work they have shown to the community.

“As the police, we must always rise to the challenges that our communities are facing and with these certificates, we want to thank and show our appreciation to our police officers for what they have done.”

Moonsamy continued, saying that the standard has been set high and urging members to continuously improve on their service to society.

“Fighting crime is a responsibility shared by the police, the community and the business sector, but criminals thrive in places where their actions are tolerated,” Moonsamy said.

He said everyone should unite to eradicate crime through initiatives that will mobilise society to work together towards a better and safer South Africa.

Frelencia Otto, Sibusiso Lusasa and Lizzy Mosete received certificates of recognition.

The award ceremony was sponsored by the South Deep Gold Mine.
