Drop box for babies ensures the right to life

According to Ramona van den Heever, founder of the Door of Care and Safety, the baby boy was two-and-a-half-months old when he was placed at their dropbox at about 4pm three weeks ago.

There have been several reports of child abandonment from the West Rand recently.

On 6 July, the Krugersdorp News reported that a foetus was found in a bin in the CBD, and shortly after that, the Roodepoort Northsider reported that recyclers had found a deceased newborn baby while digging through bins on Tuesday, 9 July.

A lot of people might say that abandoning a baby in a dropbox is cruel, but this boy’s mother gave him a second chance by abandoning him at a place of safety,” said Ramona.
