Pedestrian caught with Mandrax tablets

Young pedestrian arrested for being in possession of drugs suspected to be Mandrax during police operation on the N12.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Bekkersdal after he was found in possession of drugs suspected to be Mandrax last week.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the arrest was made during a routine crime prevention operation along the N12.

“Police officers noticed that the suspect started walking away as soon as he saw the police vehicle. They then approached him and requested permission to search him. They discovered that he was carrying what looked like Mandrax tablets in his bag,” Lefakane said.

She added that the suspect was immediately arrested for being in possession of drugs.

“He is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” Lefakane added.

Not long after that incident, another suspect, this one from North West, was arrested for possession of drugs by the same members in the same area.
