Both Gerhard Kotze’s ex-wife, 65-year-old Tersia, and and his son, 36-year-old Tobias, have been found guilty of his murder in the South Gauteng High Court.
The judge sentenced them both to life imprisonment for premeditated murder, plus eight years for fraud.
Gerhard’s remains were dug up from a shallow grave on a plot in Pelzvale approximately a month after he was reported missing in April 2017. DNA results confirmed his identity.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson confirmed on 1 June 2017, that the son, Tobias, had been arrested in connection with his father’s death.
“The investigating officer then obtained more information that led to the successful arrest of the ex-wife, Tersia, on 27 September, 2017.
The judge heard that after the deceased was murdered, his body was set alight and buried in a shallow grave. The two accused went on to transfer the deceased’s money into Tobias’ account.”
Major General Fred Kekana, the West Rand District Police Commissioner applauded the investing officer, detective Warrant Officer van Zyl of the Trio Task Team for an excellent job.
“At least Gerhard’s relatives can close this ugly chapter for good,” he said.
“I am very proud of this dedicated member and his team, who pulled out all the stops to obtain justice for Gerhard’s loved ones and friends.”
