This multimedia centre cost more than R600 000, and will assist recovering drug addicts with various programmes and self-development initiatives.

The 20-seater lab was donated by the MTN SA Foundation to benefit the rehab centre.

Judy Maluleka, manager of the MTN SA Foundation, said the initiative was part of MTN’s annual 21 Days Yellow Care, with the aim of investing in communities.

“The theme for 2019 was ‘Youth Empowerment’. We have been at this centre from 1 June sending different departments and different employees to come and invest in it,” she said.

Judy added that the centre was nominated to become a beneficiary after it was established that there were youth at the centre who needed certain digital skills to find jobs.

“When you look at the country now, youth unemployment is a national crisis. Other issues causing this unemployment include the abuse of drugs and alcohol. This is a contribution that the MTN SA Foundation is making to reduce the high rate of youth unemployment in the country,” she said.
