Council-public meeting: IDP and budget review for new financial year

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) held an Integrated Development Plan (IPD) and Budget Review Road Show for the 2019/ 2020 financial year over two days at 12 different venues last week.

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has said it is committed to ensuring improved service delivery.

This was revealed at an Integrated Development Plan (IPD) and Budget Review Road Show for the 2019/ 2020 financial year at the Greenhills Stadium on Tuesday, 11 June. Greenhills was one of 12 venues that the municipality visited over two days.

Andronica Motswagosele said the informal settlements should not be neglected.

The good news is that R2,024 billion has been allocated to provide services.

Brenda Mahuma, RWCLM’s MMC for Housing, added that other progress made included the electrification of the Jabulani informal settlement, the refurbishment of Lazar Avenue and the support of youth programmes. It was also mentioned that residents in informal settlements of Baipei in Ward 3, Badirile, Master, Elandsvlei and OR Tambo will be relocated.

She added that Thursdays and Fridays will also be used to improve service delivery backlogs. She then urged members of the community to make sure they pay for the municipal services they consume so that the municipality can further improve its services.

There are a number of projects that are yet to be completed, however. These include crime reduction, tree and grass cutting, the development of Rieebeck Lake, cleaning of sewer spillages, installation of solar geysers, road maintenance, allocation of street names, and repair s to two bridges in Hectorton and Robinson.

The bad news is that there is also a proposed move to increase tariffs for services including water, electricity, property tax (including agricultural holdings), refuse, sanitation and sundry charges (cemeteries and rental of municipal facilities).

The residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the budget, saying that they continue to face numerous issues in their respective wards.
