Skeletal remains found in open veld

Remains of an unknown person found in open veld in Bekkersdal.

The Bekkersdal Police have launched an investigating after human skeletal remains were found in the Bekkersdal area last week.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, confirmed that a hunter had discovered human remains in an open veld near Thabong Village and the Ezulwinin mine on Friday, 7 June and immediately alerted the police.

“At this stage we are unable to determine whether the deceased was a man or woman. The cause and time of death are also uncertain, but an investigation into the matter is under way,” Lefakane said.

Lefakane also urged people who have reported a relative missing to contact the Bekkersdal Police Station on 011 755 8040, or alternatively contact the investigating officer, Constable Moeketsi Maobane on 072 561 9417.
