Man, 49, caught with bag full of Nyaope

Westonaria Police caught a man in possession of a bag full of Nyaope.

A 49-year-old man is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of drugs after he was arrested by the intervention team on Friday, 31 May.

“Sergeant Martin Seletesha and Constable Gladys Ngakane were conducting their routine crime prevention duties around Simunye Extension 5 when they receive an anonymous tip-off.

“The two members swiftly responded to the information, which led to the arrest of the man, and the recovery of a bag full of drugs which turned out to be Nyaope. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and charged with possession thereof,” Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said.

Lefakane said the arrest came shortly after more than three hundred pills, suspected to be drugs, were seized on the N12 in a stop-and-search operation conducted by other members.

Colonel Tinus Swart, the station commander, commended the members on a job well done, and thanked the community of Simunye. “This is outstanding,” he said. “I hope other members will see this as good practice,” he added.
