#ThrowbackThursday – 29 May 1987

The Herald goes back, way back, to 29 May 1987, for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday.

It’s #ThrowbackThursday and the Herald went back in time to 29 May 1987 to see what was in the news.

In this edition of the Herald, Randfontein Nissan advertised the Nissan Skyline as the most perfect car ever made. The Herald visited Randwest Nissan to find out why this car was so popular back in the day.

According to Christiaan Kemp, Parts Executive at Randwest Nissan, it was all about the horsepower.

“I’m proud to say that to this day, the Nissan Skyline still lives up to it’s name,” he said.

Other news that made headlines at the time includes:

Max and Yvonne Goerke got married in the Methodist Church in Randfontein on 25 April 1987.
Westonaria officially opened its new Fire Brigade and Ambulance offices. The guest of honour at this occasion was “Mister Fire”, Piet van Heerden, a former fire chief.
