More than 100 arrested on the West Rand during the weekend

Over 100 suspects were arrested on the West Rand for crimes ranging from trespassing to murder last weekend.

A total number of 104 arrests were secured in the West Rand District during the weekend of 18 to 20 May.

According to Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, “Suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder to possession of a substance suspected to be drugs, drunk driving, shoplifting, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of gold-bearing material, common assault, theft, robbery with weapon other than a firearm, and malicious damage to property. Arrests also included illegal immigrants, possession of a dangerous weapon, housebreaking and theft, possession of drugs, arson, contempt of court, assault with grievous bodily harm, possession of dagga as well as contravention of mine health and safety,” she said.

Other offences included sexual assault and intimidation, trespassing, dealing in dagga, assault on police, interfering in police duties, theft out of motor vehicles, loitering, illegal mining, armed robbery, drunk and disorderly behaviour.

“All arrested suspects are expected to appear in the respective Magistrates’ Courts soon,” Hendricks added.

District Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, thanked and commended all members for their hard work.
