Storytime for Bhongweni children

Randfontein Community Library's library assistant invited 30 learners from the Mlangeni Pre Primary School to learn more about story books.

A small school from Bhongweni, Mlangeni Pre Primary School, recently visited the new Randfontein Community Library to learn more about story books.

According to library assistant Michelle Devadasan, 30 children aged five and six as well as some teachers joined in on the fun on 10 May.

“They found the stories very interesting. We had a great time and the children were very sad to leave once storytime was over,” she said.

They learned how to handle a book – from washing your hands to picking up the book and turning over pages – before reading an adventurous story.

“It’s very important for children to read from an early age because it helps with development. I always say that today’s readers will be tomorrow’s leaders,” Michelle concluded.
