Over 100 arrests during weekend

West Rand Police arrested 101 suspects for various serious crimes, including domestic violence, contraventions of protection orders, public drinking and more during the weekend.

The West Rand Cluster Police made 101 arrests during crime prevention operations. The operations were held from Friday, 10 to Sunday, 12 May.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, suspects were arrested for serious crimes, including house robbery, possession of stolen vehicle, attempted theft, theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and contraventions of protection orders, possession of weapons and drugs, public drinking and crimen injuria.

All those arrested appeared in their respective magistrates’ courts on Monday, 13 May.

“The District commander thanked police members for their contribution towards ensuring that the entire District is safe,” Lefakane added.
