#MunicipalMonday: Unkempt cemetery a grave concern

According to councillor Peter Dick, a contractor has been appointed to keep the Greenhills Cemetery neat, but the grass hasn't been cut in months.

The unkempt Greenhills Cemetery is disconcerting to many residents who have family members or loved ones spending eternity there.

According to DA councillor, Peter Dick, a contractor has been appointed to keep the Greenhills Cemetery neat, but the grass hasn’t been cut in months.

“The cemetery grounds are in a state. The grass and weeds are almost as tall as I am. My question is: what happened to the money allocated to maintaining the cemetery?” he asked.

Tewie Botha, a concerned resident, said that he is also not happy about the fact that his family is buried in the new part of the Greenhills Cemetery.

“I can’t even see the graves when I come to visit my loved one’s graves. I can’t remember the last time the grass was cut around their graves. I am planning to clean it up myself, but the fact of the matter is that it’s the municipality’s responsibility to maintain the cemetery,” he added.
