With a view to the country at the polls today (8 May), the Herald spoke to the future leaders about why they think it is important for those who have registered to go out and vote.

Among some of the children we spoke to were Randfontein Christian Academy (RCA) learners who gave very interesting answers.

Mbali Sithole, 12, said, “Everyone must vote because we are now living in a democracy in which all the citizens have the freedom to put their party of choice in power, whatever party they think will serve the country well.”
Caleb Hamedl, 9, said, “People should vote so that we can have the best president.”
Dunamis Makhoba, 12, said, “Because in our history things have not been good, and we need a president that can bring change in South Africa, and for South Africa to be a nice and beautiful country.”
Calista Huyse, 13, said, “So that South Africa can be better and be one of the best countries in the world.”
Thoriso Machete, 15, said, “So that better change is brought forward so that every citizen of the country enjoys living on this land.”
Fatso Mothapo, 8, said, “I think the grown-ups should go out and vote so that we can get a much better country.”

Kutlwano Mawunda, 8, said, “Voting is important because then a good president can be selected to lead our beautiful country.”

Theo Makhoba, 10, said, “So that all the promises that have been made can be delivered, and so that all the fighting in Parliament can stop.”
