A 43-year-old man was stabbed to death in a fight at a tavern in Rampou Street, Bekkersdal during the weekend.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said they are investigating a case of murder that took place at about 3am on Sunday, 5 May.

“Police received a complaint about a murder in the area. They found that the victim had already been pronounced dead when they arrived at the scene. A case was opened and assigned to detective Sergeant Shiwe Mkone who conducted a preliminary investigation which led to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect.”
Lefakane said the suspect is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.
Colonel Tinus Swart‚ the Bekkersdal Police station commander, commended the member for the swift arrest and thanked the community for assisting the police with the information.
“We will ensure that justice is served and that the family gets the closure they deserve,” Swart said.
