#MunicipalMonday: Roads in Rand West City the focus

For this week's #MunicipalMonday, the Herald spoke to the local municipality's MMC for Roads, Stormwater and Transport about the R20 million budget to fix our roads.

The Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has assured residents that it intends to fix the roads.

Itani Gladys Khoza, MMC for Roads, Stormwater and Transport, told the Herald last week that R20 million has been budgeted to improve and resurface roads within the municipality.

“We are taking the matter seriously,” she said.

She added that they have partnered with the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to ensure that the revamping of the roads will run smoothly.

Speaking at the official opening of a 30km stretch of road on the R28 in Westonaria, alongside Dr Ismail Vadi, Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, MMC Khoza said the municipality has realised that there is a lot of unhappiness among residents.

“Efforts are being made to fix the roads. We have started work in Greenhills and in town and we will also be focusing on other parts of the municipality. We would like to urge our community not to disrupt any development they see in their areas,” she said.
