All fun and fundraising games in the name of bowls

First day of fundraiser for Randfontein Bowling Club's upkeep held during the weekend.

The Randfontein Bowling Club invited the community to its fundraiser, which was held on Sunday, 7 April.

According to Bob McNeill, president of the club, the aim was to raise funds for the club’s upkeep. He said open days will be held on every first Sunday of the month to raise the funds.

This was the first time we had a fundraiser, and the response from the public has so far been good; however, we have to do more advertising in order to get the word out,” Bob said.

Bob added that as the club is mainly for pensioners, the funds raised will go a long way to help with its maintenance.

Lourens Barnard, Janco Nel and Rina Barnard were among the stall holders at the fundraiser.

“We are also trying to run a competition to raise funds. Technically, we are a non-profit organisation, but we still need to pay our rent and water bills,” Bob said.

He thanked the stall holders who came out in their numbers to support them.

During the open day, families and ordinary members of the community enjoyed games of bowling and satisfied their appetites with food bought from some of the stalls at the venue.
