Suspension of old Sassa cards announced

The South African Social Security Agency issues urgent statement to its beneficiaries.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) appeals to all social grant beneficiaries who have not yet swapped their old white Sassa cards for the new gold ones to do so immediately.

Nandi Mosia, Sassa Gauteng spokesperson said, “Non-receipt of social grant payment for the month of April 2019 will be as a result of failure to swap old Sassa cards for the new ones.”

She added that in Gauteng alone, a total of about 24 506 social grants belonging to beneficiaries who did not swap to the new Gold Sassa card were suspended.

“The agency is appealing to the affected social grant recipients to visit their nearest Sassa office to swap their cards, so that their grants can be restored.

“Beneficiaries are requested to bring along their 13-digit Identity documents and the old card they used to collect their grant. Those who are very old or too sick to visit our offices must call the Sassa offices nearest to them to arrange for a home visit.

“Those beneficiaries receiving their money at other Points of Sale such as banks who wish to return to the Sassa card can do so at any of our offices.”

For more information, beneficiaries can contact Sassa’s Customer Care Unit on 013 754 9439/ 9428 or the hotline number 0800 60 10 11 from 8am to 4pm, Mondays to Fridays.
