Little beauty queen makes donation to Friendship Safe Haven

Lots of veggies were donated to help minimise the risk of diabetes for the elderly in the home.

Eleven-year-old Zwané Volschenck, who is a 2019 Miss Randfontein finalist from Tarlton, donated a load of vegetables to the Friendship Safe Haven in West Porges on Friday, 5 April.

This initiative is part of her community project, after she raised funds with the aim of promoting healthy eating among the residents of the centre.

Zwané Volschenk donated loads of vegetables to Jenny Mpete of the Friendship Safe Haven.

“I am very determined to help the elderly because I know that they are vulnerable and can no longer do the things they used to do. I am also aware of the fact that they are more at risk of developing diabetes than younger people,” Zwané said.

She added that she hopes the health of the residents will improve after the donation, and that they will be less likely to get diabetes.

The reason she chose to embark on such a generous project is because she is bound by certain principles.

“Crowns are not made of rhinestones, they are made of discipline, determination and a heart to find an alloy called courage,” Zwané said.

In thanking Zwané for the donation, Jenny Mpete said, “We are very grateful for this contribution from Zwané. It is always impressive to see young people investing their time and energy in the well-being of the elderly.”
