Man’s body found with belt around neck

The body of a man of approximately 45 years of age was found with a belt around his neck next to the R28 on April Fool's Day.

The body of a man with a belt around his neck was found in the veld approximately 700 metres from the R28 in Westonaria on Monday, 1 April.

Sergeant Audrey Sefara, Westonaria Police spokesperson, said at about 10.45am, sector members received a report about a dead person in an open field near the turn-off to Bhambanani.

She said the body was discovered by a passer-by and an inquest docket has been opened.

On arrival at the scene, members found a person who pointed out a decomposed body lying on the grass about 700 meters from the road.

“They inspected the body, but found no identity documents. The identity of the deceased thus remains unknown,” she said.

Sefara described the deceased as a man of approximately 45 years of age, with a dark complexion. He was wearing dark pants and a brown formal shoe on the left foot. He had a belt tied around his neck.

“Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene and the deceased was taken to Carletonville Mortuary. The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage. The Westonaria detectives are therefore urging the community to come forward with any information that could help to identify the deceased and trace his relatives, and also assist in bringing the perpetrators to book,” she added.
