Two caught with housebreaking implements, illegal firearm

Two men, one of them a teen, were arrested for being in possession of housebreaking implements and an illegal firearm.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed that members of the Intervention Team arrested the two men aged 19 and 32 at about 9pm on Tuesday, 26 March.

“Sergeant Libudi Nong and Constable Dingaan Mokoto were conducting their routine crime-prevention duties around the Mandela section of Bekkersdal when they received a tip-off from a member of the community. They followed up on information that led to the recovery of a firearm and a bolt cutter.

“They arrested both suspects, who will be charged with being in possession on an unlicensed firearm as well as housebreaking implements. They are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.”

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander expressed his gratitude to the member of the public for the information and also thanked and commended the members for swiftly responding to the information.

“A number of cases where firearms are used has been reported around the Bekkersdal Policing Precinct. We are appealing to the public to assist us in rooting out these criminals in our communities.”
