Mine, municipality launch ‘You reap what you sow’

Sibanye Stillwater and the West Rand District Municipality are committed to empowering people in Mohlakeng and Westonaria in the agricultural sector.

Early in March, Sibanye-Stillwater and the West Rand District Municipality handed over the successful You Reap What You Sow agricultural cooperative located in the Mohlakeng township

The initiative is a partnership between the WRDM and the mining company. The parties invested in the initiative by providing 20 hectares of land, infrastructure, irrigation systems, operating costs and equipment.

The initiative sought to boost the township economy not just by creating employment in the community of Mohlakeng, but also creating a sustainable and affordable market for local hawkers and providing fresh, affordable vegetables for the community to buy.

Sibanye Stillwater also commenced with the construction of the Hawkers Stalls in Westonaria. The project is the company’s contribution to urban renewal and is expected to benefit informal businesses operating around the Westonaria Taxi Rank. It is delivered in partnership with the Rand West City Local Municipality that contributed the land for the project.
