Strides made against crime, but …

Drugs and children's safety were just two of the big talking points during a police, CPF and public meeting held recently.

Although strides are slowly being made in the fight against crime, drugs remain a big concern.

This was revealed at a police, CPF and public meeting held at Clan Doyle in Loumarina on Thursday last week.

Speaking at the meeting, Zaheer Gangat, the Randfontein CPF executive committee chairperson, said the fact that the war against crime is slowly being won can be attributed to the police, CPF and ordinary members of the community all joining hands.

Gangat urged the community to always be vigilant and report anything suspicious. He added that this can either be done by approaching the police or via a WhatsAppcommunity group.

Crime might be on the decline, but drug dealing is a concern and happening on our streets.

“It might not affect us, but our children are their targets and we need to watch out for them. Please make sure that you report anything suspicious, because we do not want this area to become a drug nest,” Gangat warned.

Colonel Rand Makgatho thanked the community for supporting the CPF and police in fighting crime.

Colonel Rand Makgatho of the Randfontein Police thanked the community for its involvement in fighting crime and said that they should continue showing their endless support.

“We need to appreciate the community patrollers under the leadership of Henry Boyce, the CPF operations coordinator, because the last time we were in a meeting like this, we said we would form a team that would work to ensure community safety during the night and day, so that we chase criminals away. I believe everyone is moving in the right direction.”

Boyce said the most important thing is community involvement, because that is the only way to eradicate crime completely.

He again stressed the importance of public participation in these meetings, as this enables the CPF to gain knowledge from the community to better assist the police and fight crime in all areas.

“The CPF is the eyes and ears of the community, as well as being major role players in the fight against crime.”
