Get to know more about a career in multimedia

Do you like gadgets and technology? Then you should consider multimedia as a career path.

Are you a young and a techno-savvy person who is into music production, games and gadgets? Well, maybe you should consider multimedia as your career.

During the West Rand Career Exhibition, the Herald caught up with Paul Walker, marketing manager of Emendy Institute, who gave us his insights into the world of multimedia.

“What we do is not the conventional way of studying where you can simply read a book and write a test. We create an environment where you can meet like-minded individuals who have dreams and who want to accomplish big things in the industry,” Paul said.

He said all it takes is for prospective students to be talented, dedicated, ambitious and willing to learn more as they progress.

The course offers many many options to branch out to, including game design, music, 3D animation and modelling, advanced audio mixing and mastering, digital music production, computer programming, studio sound engineering and so on.

Paul said students will also be practically experiencing the ins and outs of the industry, and will have to deal with failures in their learning process.

“We are not just about the academia, we also teach students about entrepreneurship, because we do not only develop people who will work for other people. We want industry leaders who will create jobs for others out there,” Paul said.

Paul said multimedia as a digital course will be most suitable for young students who are the future of technology.

Sokhile Mpanza, who is in Grade 12 and very excited about multimedia, said he cannot wait to begin his career in game development.

“This is something that I have always wanted to do, all my life, but I was never quite sure where to start. I am glad that I came to the exhibition, now I can pursue what I love,” Sokhile added.
