Meet the Robin Hood of the West Rand

Nkosinathi Prince Ndlovu, a matriculant, has a big future planned for himself in the entertainment industry.

Nkosinathi Prince Ndlovu wants to become the biggest star the West Rand has ever seen and he won’t settle for anything less.

Besides his birth name, the 17-year-old matriculant from Randfontein High School (RHS) goes by the stage name of MIC Jersey while his friends also call him ‘Robin Hood’. He explained instead of taking from the rich and giving to the poor like Robin Hood, he gives hope to the hopeless with the idea of inspiring the youth to follow their dreams, no matter what.

Currently, he is getting paid for his talent as rap artist and does performances all over the West Rand and Johannesburg. He also has his own Instagram account, named MIC_Jersey where fans can check out photos and videos. Although the income is not enough to make a career out of it yet, Nkosinathi believes he is on the right track to become what he refers to as ‘The light in the West’.

He said, “The rapping started in Grade 5, at the age of 12 but it was in Grade 7 that I seriously started entertaining school kids and decided there and then I am meant for something bigger. I went from this insecure kid the one minute to a rap artist who gets paid the next minute.

“I always wanted to be a singer but never had the voice, the closest to that was rap, so I went for it.”

He said his rap talent also led him to drama, and has he also excelled in it, having won three diamond certificates at Raca in 2018.

“God has totally blessed me.”

Nkosinathi said he wants to finish school and then study drama and theatre at AFDA, the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance.

Back to his rapping … Nkosinathi is in the process of completing his first ever full-length music video, titled Robin Hood, which will be released in April. He will also host two events during the upcoming school holidays and his school’s matric after-party.

“Some people doubt I will make this dream or make this work. I’m a rager, when I get to an event my insecurity goes out the window and all of a sudden I’m in the zone.”
