‘We are not the post office’ – family inundated with letters

The family is worried that people are missing important letters.

The Wilkenl family in Greenhills has been inundated with letters intended for various other addresses in Randfontein.

The family has lost count of the number of letters they have received, and have said enough is enough.

Speaking to the Herald about his frustration, Pieter Wilken said that late last year, a few strange letters began appearing on his property.

Some of the letters got stuck under the rail of the gate and tore.

He said that at first they did not make much of it, deeming it to be nothing more than a mistaken delivery, “… but the problem became worse when bundles of letters started getting shoved through our gate”.

He said unfortunately some of the letters had been damaged as they got stuck between the gate and its track.

“Our gate is electronic, and when we open it, these letters get ripped apart. We even had to dispose of some of them.”

Pieter said as much as the situation is frustrating and annoying, he feels for the people who are not receiving their important letters and parcels.

“Some of the letters are private and confidential, some are municipal notices and others accounts,” Pieter added. Pieter said all he could do was go to the Randfontein Post Office, but they were unfortunately not able to assist him.

The letters are currently in the Herald’s possession.
