#Municipal Monday: More dangerous municipal issues surface

VIDEO: Open manholes and power boxes as well as vandalised water hydrants in the Homelake and Greenhills areas are the latest municipal concerns to surface.

Open manholes and power boxes as well as vandalised water hydrants in the Homelake and Greenhills areas are the latest municipal concerns to surface.

According to DA Ward 6 councillor, Ellik de Lange, criminal elements and lack of maintenance can be added to the long list of the causes of the deterioration in Randfontein.

“You can actually take the whole day to walk around and look at these problems. Many people complain almost on a daily basis but nothing is ever done. Apart from the theft of manhole covers and road signs, roads have more potholes than tarred surfaces, water is leaking, properties are being vandalised, and drugs are being sold to school children,” he said.

Open power boxes can easily be tampered with.

Ellik added that Randfontein is being abandoned and said that serious measures have to be put in place to restore the dignity of the town.

“There are many conditions here that are putting people in danger and many people are not happy with what is going on. But the problem is that community’s pleas fall on deaf ears.”

Some water hydrants have been vandalised.
