Unidentified man believed to be in his 20s found shot to death next to a bridge in the Bekkersdal area.

An unidentified man was found shot to death next to the Mandela Bridge in Bekkersdal last weekend.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said a case of murder is being investigated.

“At about 9.30pm on Sunday night, 17 February, members of the community heard gunshots and went to investigate. They then found a man with several gunshot wounds lying dead on his back. The victim was wearing black jeans and a blue/ green stripped jersey,” Lefakane said.

Lefakane said an investigation started as soon as the matter was reported to the police.

“The deceased is still unknown and we are seeking assistance from the community in locating his next of kin,” Lefakane added.
