At least 20 people rolled up their sleeves to clean the Greenhills cemetery.

Randfontein residents rolled up their sleeves on Saturday, 16 February to clean up the Greenhills Cemetery.

The clean-up campaign comes after months of residents’ dissatisfaction about the unkempt state of the graveyard.

Stefan Venter, coordinator of the campaign, said members of the community were merely doing community service, because they felt that the municipality could not assist.

“There have been many complaints about the state of this cemetery from many residents, so we took it upon ourselves to do the work,” Stefan said. He added that twenty people joined hands in support of the initiative.
