Dancing that will blow you away

Meet a dance club from Mohlakeng that is set to make their school and the whole West Rand proud of their abilities

The Sedimosang Primary School Dance Club, also known as the Dance Giants, based in Mohlakeng, is getting ready to bring some action to the 2019 Randfontein Show with its new hip hop moves.

The Giant’s choreography teacher, Bongani Malaza, said the group, consisting of 32 members who are all learners in Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 at Sedimosang Primary School, are ready to give showgoers a spectacular performance.

“We only started to practise again when school reopened this year, but we have managed to perfect all our dance routines and all the signature styles in the very short space of time,” Bongani said.

Bongani proudly said all the learners he recruited have shown commitment to not only make their school, but the entire West Rand, proud.

“After seeing that many schools, especially those in the townships, are never represented in dance and never participate in competitions, I decided to take up this opportunity to introduce the learners to this kind of genre, as it is also my background,” he said.

Bongani added that beside the Giants having shown their worth against other local clubs in 2018, the club represented the West Rand at provincial level competitions.

Explaining how he developed the team, Bongani said the most important step is the first step, which is the foundation level.

“We have smaller kids whom we assist in Latin dance, who are in Grades 2 and 3.”

“We started with very important basics in the introduction phase so that we could branch out to various moves later,” Bongani added.
