Illegal firearm and ammo seized during Simunye 'drug house' police raid.

Police arrested two men after they were found in possession of an illegal firearm and live ammunition in a house where drugs are believed to be sold.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson confirmed the two men, aged 31 and 32, were arrested by members of the West Rand Cluster Police Trio task team at about 3.30pm on Wednesday, 13 February after receiving an anonymous tip-off.

“Upon our arrival at the house in Simunye Extension 5 where drugs were allegedly being sold, police found four men. They were searched and an unlicensed firearm was discovered on one of them, while another had live ammunition in his possession.

“Both suspects were arrested and have since been charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition. Both are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” Lefakane said.

Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal Police station commander applauded members for a job well done and thanked the community for the information that led to the arrest.

“We will not rest until our communities are able to live in a crime-free area,” Sward said.
