iCollege responds to student concerns

iCOLLEGE responds to "misinformation that is currently being circulated in the various media platforms" which has led to disgruntled students.

iCOLLEGE, an institution of higher learning, has responded to “misinformation that is currently being circulated in the various media platforms” and has led to disgruntled students.

The Herald had it confirmed that the below statement also applies to the Randfontein Campus.

According to Lizel Booysen, Marketing Director of iCOLLEGE, contrary to the information being shared by certain individuals and student bodies, iCOLLEGE is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).

“The college, previously known as Stanford Business & Computer College, was established in 1997. A name change was effected to iCOLLEGE in 2013 and it has been registered with the DHET thereafter under the name Primeserv Training trading as iCOLLEGE. Registration Certificate No: 2010/FE07/076.

“iCOLLEGE is also registered with a number of SETAs and it abides by the SETA-required processes, namely that each student needs to provide a complete Portfolio of Evidence (POE) at the end of their year in order to graduate and receive their SETA certificates.

“Unfortunately, a percentage of students did not comply with these SETA requirements. But iCOLLEGE still goes out of their way to provide extra assistance to these students by providing remedial classes for them to complete their POEs. Any student is welcome to contact ICOLLEGE in this regard.”

She added that iCOLLEGE, unlike most institutions of higher learning, does not charge students tuition fees. The only cost incurred by students is an initial once-off registration fee of R600.

“Whilst iCOLLEGE has faced minor issues with regards to the timeous rolling out of qualifications, that matter has been resolved. The allegations that students who study at iCOLLEGE do not receive their qualifications upon completion of the course material or graduate are utterly false.

“As it stands, iCOLLEGE is in the process of finalising the Johannesburg graduation for early March. For all students affected by this, we ask they contact iCOLLEGE and we will gladly assist.

“iCOLLEGE also has a long list of records that reflect students having received their qualifications. These records can be made public, but with consideration towards respecting the personal information of students in terms of the POPI Act.

Booysen continued, “While iCOLLEGE recognises the students’ right to protest and raise any issues of concern they may be facing, it would have preferred the issue to have been resolved without a protest as this destabilises classes, taking away class time from both students and lecturers. As with any learning institution, problems between students and management will arise but as always, ICOLLEGE is committed to open, honest and transparent communication with its learners.”
