Vital classes for new parents

Life Robinson Private Hospital invites all parents-to-be to attend free of charge antenatal classes provided by their Maternity unit as of today!

Life Robinson Private Hospital invites all parents-to-be to attend free of charge antenatal classes provided by their Maternity unit starting today, 12 February.

According to Melanie van Staden, spokesperson for Life Robinson Private Hospital, we also encourage all expecting mommies to visit their doctor or healthcare provider in the early stages of their pregnancy on a regular basis.

“Every pregnancy is the beginning of new things, therefore the birth of a baby is one of the most significant life experiences for a woman and her partner.”

She added, “During your check-ups your health will be monitored as well as your baby’s growth and development.

Regular check-ups will ensure that any concerns or complications are identified and treated as soon as possible.”

Dr Zandile Dlamini, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Life Robinson Private Hospital said antenatal programmes are an excellent source of information and attending classes will equip you with additional information of what to expect during your pregnancy and the journey you are about to embark on.

“The value of the information and knowledge which parents are equipped with during antenatal classes is of great value to assist with a healthy pregnancy. It goes beyond pregnancy and also prepares you for the highs and lows of labour, birth and parenthood.”

Dr Dlamini added that patients who attend antenatal classes are more at ease as they transition through the different trimesters, birth and parenthood.

“Classes not only give couples the opportunity to share and prepare for their role as parents together, it also provides a deeper understanding of each other’s emotions and the social support of other couples going through the same emotions of excitement and uncertainty.”

Pregnancy Awareness Week also takes place from 12 February to 16 February which offers healthcare providers the opportunity to raise awareness in their communities about the importance of a healthy pregnancy.

“The antenatal programme consist of three classes taking place every Tuesday evening from 6pm to 7.30pm. Numerous topics are covered such as signs and symptoms of pregnancy, nutrition, exercise and posture, labour and birthing options as well as early parenthood and postnatal depression,” added Christie van den Berg, maternity unit manager.
