Church prays for teachers, police

Mohlakeng Methodist Church prays for teachers and police officers in R'fontein to show their support of these men and women who faces many challenges in their line of work.

The Mohlakeng Methodist Church held a special prayer session for teachers and the police of Randfontein on Sunday 3, February.

Motsilisi Sepanya, the church spokesperson said the prayer session was aimed at showing communities that these public servants are not only risking their lives; they are playing an important role in society.

Penny Makele and Bikie Mokale of Mohlakeng Methodist during the prayer session for teachers and the police.

“Because it is the beginning of the year we included the teachers to show our support to them for the academic year,” she said, adding that among the many problems teachers face is instilling discipline in their learners.

“Many accusations are being made against them, therefore teachers today cannot say anything beyond reprimanding their learners. Part of the problem is that parents tend to believe more of what their children are saying than what the teachers tell them.”

Motsilisi said police play an important role in protecting the community, but are constantly risking their lives while on duty.

Mpho Mazibuko praises teachers and police at the prayer session.

“They are being killed while trying to protect us. So by this, we simply wanted people to be aware that we care about them. As the Methodist Church we want them to know that we are here for them and we are doing this so that the whole world can see that we have a duty to pray for and protect our teachers and police against any harm they may run into while they are doing their jobs,” Motsilisi added.
