W’aria retailer safe cut open, cash stolen

A case of business burglary is being investigated after a safe was cut open and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen at a Pep Home Store in Westonaria.

An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from a Pep Home Store in Westonaria after a safe on the premises was cut open with a grinder, local police said.

Sergeant Audrey Sefara, the Westonaria Police spokesperson, confirmed that the business was broken into on Sunday, 27 January.

“The complainant locked the shop and set the security alarm at 1.30pm. When he came back to work the following day at about 7.30am, he said he unlocked the door and deactivated the alarm only to find that the office had been broken into. He called the manager and the police.

“Police officers examined the office and found that the safe had been opened and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen. It appears that a grinder was used to open the safe. It is not yet known whether other items were also stolen because some cellphones were lying around and the office had been ransacked,” she added.

A case of business burglary is being investigated.

The Westonaria Police request that anyone with information that can lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects should contact the Westonaria Police on 011 278 5300/ 5395/ 96 or alternatively contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
