The reason for Randfontein’s power outages

According to Craig Harrison, DA councillor, these power outages were caused by the theft of fuses from mini-substations in the area.

Mini-substations and power cables all over Randfontein have become the latest targets for criminals.

According to Craig Harrison, DA councillor, parts of Culemborg Park, Homelake, Greenhills, and Randgate have experienced power outages this past week.

“These power outages were caused by the theft of fuses from mini-substations in the area. These criminals are also stealing the cables between streetlight poles,” he said.

As soon as the problem is fixed, another mini-substation gets robbed and a few houses lose their power. Craig said that the community should keep an eye out for these criminals as they are stealing these fuses and cables in broad daylight.

“If a community member spots a suspicious person near cables or a substation they should inform the police or the Community Policing Forum so the criminals can be apprehended,” Craig added.
