Randfontein’s Gold rose is back!

We dare to classify her as a grandiflora to rank with ‘Queen Elizabeth’ – Ludwig Roses.

The Randfontein Gold rose, originally cultivated by Ludwig Roses in Pretoria to celebrate the town’s 60th birthday in 1989, is making a comeback at the 2019 Randfontein Show.

“We brought the Randfontein Gold rose to the 1989 show, and decided it’s high time to bring it back again, to coincide with the town’s 90th birthday,” said Marcelle Mans, the Show Coordinator.

According to Ludwig Roses, “This is not is not just another yellow rose. Indeed, we dare to classify her as a grandiflora to rank with the Queen Elizabeth. The rose is a clear, golden yellow with egg-shaped buds that unfold to reveal shapely double blooms. It is tough and its green foliage and vigour are additional characteristics making this rose an excellent addition to mass displays, hedges and background plantings.

“Randfontein Gold roses can be seen all over the town at various intersections and in people’s gardens,” said Marcelle.

Marcelle added the roses will form part of the décor at the RSG Brekfis met Derrich function on Saturday, 2 March in the Show Marquee and will also be on sale for only R100 each.

The Randfontein Show takes place at the Greenhills Stadium from 28 February to 3 March 2019.
