Men caught with almost 100 Mandrax tablets in Toekies

Three men travelling in a bakkie were caught with 89 Mandrax tablets during a stop-and-search operation in Toekomsrus two days ago.

Three men aged between 26 and 32 were caught with close to 100 Mandrax tablets in Emerald Street, Toekomsrus at about 11.30am on Wednesday, 23 January.

Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson said, “It is alleged that a number of police members were officially on duty doing a crime prevention operation. They were busy doing a stop-and-search operation around Toekomsrus when they noticed a suspicious white Nissan bakkie with three occupants. The members stopped the vehicle and were given permission to search it,” she said.

The members found a plastic container filled with what looked like Mandrax tablets. Closer inspection led to the discovery of 89 Mandrax tablets.

“The three suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs and will be appearing in Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon,” Hendricks added.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, expressed his gratitude toward the members for being vigilant and for a job well done.
