Two festive season burglars caught

Police made two arrests on Tuesday in connection with a burglary at a house during the December holidays.

Police arrested two burglars for targeting a house in Bekkersdal during December last year.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said two suspects, both aged 22, were arrested on Tuesday, 22 January following a residential break-in at the Tambo section of Bekkersdal last month.

“It is alleged the victim was away on holiday and when she returned she found her place had been broken into. She reported the matter to the police and a case was registered.

“She conducted her own investigation with the help of her neighbours, which led to the arrests and recovery of some of the stolen property. Both suspects will be charged with housebreaking, theft and being in possession of stolen property.”

They are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.

Colonel Tinus Swart, the Bekkersdal Police station commander thanked the community for the information which led to the arrests and also for not taking the law into their own hands.
