Five injured, one seriously in two-vehicle W’aria crash

Jaws of Life used to free trapped victim in two-vehicle crash on N12 – five injured in total.

Five people were injured, one seriously, following a two-vehicle crash on the N12 in Westonaria during the weekend.

Ineke van Huyssteen, ER24 spokesperson said when ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday, 19 January, they found another medical service’s paramedics already treating a patient.

“The patient sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to hospital by the ER24 Oneplan medical helicopter.

“Four other victims were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. The Fire Department extricated one of them from the wreckage by using the Jaws of Life. ER24, as well as other medical services on the scene transported the victims to hospital for further medical care.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to the paramedics, but local authorities were on the scene for investigations.
