Child cyclist seriously injured in bakkie crash

Girl aged eight left badly injured after she was knocked off her bicycle by the driver of a bakkie in Carletonville.

An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured and was airlifted to hospital after a person driving a bakkie knocked her off her bicycle in Carletonville during the weekend.

Ineke van Huyssteen, the ER24 spokesperson, said the child was knocked over by a bakkie while riding her bicycle on Coronation Street on Saturday afternoon, 19 January.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 2pm, they found the little girl lying next to the road, next to the bakkie. Her bicycle was found a few metres from where she was lying.

“Paramedics treated and stabilised her on the scene before she was airlifted to hospital by the ER24 Oneplan Medical Helicopter.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to the paramedics, but police were on the scene for further investigations.
