Administration block worth R2,4 million opened in Mohlakeng

New administration block valued at R2,4 million that includes offices, a kitchen, reception area, restrooms and meeting rooms for staff opened at a Mohlakeng school.

Gauteng MEC for Finance, Barbara Creecy, officially opened the new R2,4 million administration block at Mohlakeng Primary School on Wednesday, 9 January.

The new facility, the MEC said, would contribute significantly to improving the quality of learning and teaching at the school. The launch of the facility was incorporated into the Gauteng Provincial Government’s back to school campaign on the same day.

The administration block consists of offices, a kitchen, a reception area, restrooms and meeting rooms for the staff. The MEC said it represents the delivery on the promise she made when she visited the school last year to work with the private sector to ensure that a new administration block would be built for the school.

Since then, Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed ICT company Altron’s Altech Radio Holdings has worked with the MEC to build the first new administration block in the history of Mohlakeng Primary School.

“Today I am blessed, because I have had an opportunity to do something here that I care about, and that is to improve the quality of the future life of the children at Mohlakeng Primary School. For me there is no greater blessing than being able to contribute to the future of young people because they are the future,” MEC Creecy said.

Creecy also urged all the stakeholders at the school, including teachers, parents and the community, to look after the facility. “Love it and help us to make sure that these young children leave here reading, writing and computer-literate. Then the future is at their feet,” she added.
